Can You Train Like A Spartan?

Hi All,

Well the other day I was saying how proud I was of my guys who took on the 12 week program to radically change their lives.

One thing that they all have with their training is that they never ever give up.  They will push too their limits each every time I train them.

Thinking about this made me wonder why doesnt every one train with the same ethics?

Why do they walk around the gym resting more than actually working?  Sometimes I take it personally because I hate not giving my all when I am training and I expect the same from my people who train with me.

Well ironically this made me think of certain actors who go to extreme measures to get ready for their roles in movies and the one that came to mind was the movie 300.

The actors in this movie had to have bodies that looked like real spartans, and they had to sculpt their bodies to look the way they did by working out with 100% intensity and dedication.   I know that some people will say "yeah but that is their job", well it may be that.  But it doesnt exclude the fact that they still had to have the mental strength to push through their grueling workouts to get into spartan shape.

And how did they do it?

Well they trained the way that I do and preach.  All old school type training.  They used lots of bodyweight training, olympic lifting, kettlebells, sprinting, throwing, pulling, pushing odd objects.  Trust me, these actors who prepared trained harder than any athlete does and definately more than the majority of the people in this world would.

Gyms today are no longer real gyms.  They are social get together places where you may do a few exercises here and there.

I have a commercial gym across from my gym.  When my guys walk out they are dripping in sweat, probably have chalk all over them, may have black marks on them from flipping tyres etc;

I see the people walk out of the commercial gym and there is no sweat on them, most of all the women still have perfectly done makeup, the guys have their hair immaculately done and the sad part is that they think that they have worked out.  These people dont know what it is to train hard and push themselves.....they wouldnt even make it through the warm up in my gym.

So back to the spartan thing.  Well spartans trained using our primal movements...pushing, pulling, squatting, throwing, twisting, lunging, sprinting etc;  All the movements that a man or woman needed to survive!

Below are three videos showing the type of training that was done by the actors for the movie 300.  While the workouts look simple, I challenge anyone to do the same workout with the same intensity and see if they would actually survive even the first part of the workout.

Watch the videos and ask yourself if you are truly pushing yourself as hard as you can when it comes to your training.  Are you making excuses so you can rest?  Stop the excuses and train like a spartan......because if spartans didnt train like this then they would die.

If you like what have seen make sure you leave a comments and also let me know of your hardest training sessions and how you push yourselves to your limits and what gets you through.

Until next time,

Train Hard but Train Smart
Joe

Fantastic! So this is where some of your ideas come from! Excellent! My hardest workout session is every workout session, there are NO easy workouts at your gym! What gets me through is survival skills. It's do or die! Simple as that!
